Another One Bites the Dust

Yes! Another one down! I love his smile. It doesn't even bother him that he looks like he lost a fist fight. Toothless kids are pretty darn cute.

Jake is Such a Ham

He's pretty darn cute. This week he has been sleeping on his stomach. I guess that's where he likes to be because that's where he ends up, no matter how I put him in bed. I bought myself some new shampoo at Bath and Body Works. It must taste awesome because he has also started chewing on my hair.

Kids are Weird

So Hayden is funny. I've been looking at some of the pictures he's taken lately. This shot is representative of most of his pictures these days. There are shots of his face while he's standing in the pantry, pictures of him in front of the TV, pictures of him with the camera on the kitchen counter and so on and so on. Occasionally I find shots of ham, his laundry, the dog looking annoyed, but the shots of his cute smiling face are my favorite.

Now here is a story from first grade. The desks in his class are arranged in groups of four, making little tables. He was assigned to sit across from his kindergarten nemesis, let's call her M. Now M is a rule breaker, and Hayden is a rule enforcer so they do clash sometimes. My favorite kindergarten story involved Hayden headbutting M on the playground. When their teacher noticed the headbutt and approached Hayden about it he told her, "She was climbing up the slide and that's against the rules. But I didn't hit her with my hands." That was his logic. Hitting with heads is okay, but hand-hitting is inappropriate. So all last year they had a love/hate relationship going on. So when I saw their desks near each other on the first day of school this year I should have clued the teacher in a bit. But I do have a bit of evil in me and said nothing. He came home early last week to inform me that his desk had been moved away from M. I asked why and he told me, "I couldn't stop laughing. She's funny. I just couldn't stop laughing at her." Now Hayden doesn't always let me know everything that goes on in class so I guessed that maybe I didn't know the whole story. Then Hayden's teacher called a couple of days ago to tell me how well he's doing. When I asked about the desk change she told me it was because Hayden thought M was pretty darn funny and couldn't stop laughing. So he was telling me the truth, which is good to know. But then I wanted to know what was so darn funny. A couple of nights ago at Cafe Rio I got my chance. I asked him what M said to make him laugh so much. Apparently the teacher had them read a book called "I'm Six", but M wouldn't stop calling it "I Hate Six". Now that's some funny stuff (?). He almost choked on the chips he was eating when he told me the title of the book, he was laughing that hard. Watching him laugh that hard was pretty funny, but I guess I'm way too old to get the joke.

One of Those Days

Look at that face. Doesn't he look like he's saying "Someone help me, Mommy's doing it all wrong!"

Jake and I had one of those days. You know, the kind where nothing
Mommy does is right. Poor Jake. He wouldn't let me do anything today so I had to put on my peanut sling and tote him around. I wore him around for an hour and a half. He eventually went to sleep for twenty minutes, which did nothing but enrage him more. After hours of grumpy baby I decided to put him in his swing. In two minutes he was out. I was afraid to move him. Now I'm afraid I did permanent damage to his legs or hips or something because he stayed like that for half an hour. It was a sweet, sweet half hour of peace though. Hopefully tomorrow is a better day since I'm not sure my back can take another hour and a half of peanut sling time.

Jumpin' Jake

Jake has mastered the "Jump and Go". Now I can shower and do my hair (not that I do my hair, but now I have the option). He just hangs out in the doorway jumping. I had forgotten how babies come with all this stuff. We now have the "Jump and Go", high chair, portable crib, activity center, bouncy seat, exersaucer and car seats. And that's just Jake's stuff, I'm not even going into all the things around the house that are Hayden's. The stuff has taken over. Good thing my kids are cute, or I'd have to get rid of them. I kid, I kid.

Tooth!

Hayden lost his third tooth last night while playing with his friend. Somehow a walkie talkie was involved but I'm not entirely certain how. I have been waiting for this. I love it when kids have missing teeth, they are just so cute. The tooth fairy showed up and he got a dollar. Is that the going rate for teeth these days? The other top tooth is loose too so I'm looking forward to seeing that one gone too.

I Finally Finished the Stupid Laundry Room

I know you think you are ready for the craziest paint job you've seen........but just in case.......take a moment to breathe deeply before you take a look at my "before" laundry room. It was like this when I moved in, I swear. I'd never do this to myself.

What the....?
Okay, now here are the after shots (by the way it took two coats of PREMIUM Kilz primer to cover that hideous green before I was even able to put up another two coats of yellow-can you tell how bitter I am about it? Green is now my least favorite color). It was green, it was swirly, it was everywhere, it was baaaaad.

I love my Ikea poppies. They make laundry a little less......wait, scratch that. Laundry still sucks but my walls are cute.
Look at my curtains! I did something crafty! I'm awesome! It will never happen again!
